Monitor check

We have designed most pages on the site to be viewed in a browser window 640 pixels wide.

To check your window width, your window should see the ends of the line below:

Images are best viewed at True color or millions of colors. How can you tell what your computer screen is set for?

Look at this rainbow:

Now compare it to the one below:

If the top rainbow looks like the rainbow above, you are using millions of colors and the site photos will look their best.

If the top rainbow looks like the rainbow above, you are using 256 colors, the site will look okay, but you are missing some of the detail in the photos.

If the top rainbow looks like the rainbow above, you are using 16 colors, the site photos look pretty bad, but please enjoy the site.

Link to photojournalist's gear pages

Each photojournalist writes his or her journal entries and forwards them to the site via e mail, along with JPEG images for inclusion in the journal entry. The photojournalists use a mix of Mac's and PC's and ultimately, the site is served from a from two servers, one Microsoft Internet Information Server over a ISDN connection and a second over T1.

Geographically, the content originates from China to New York and in many cases, is posted to the site within an hour of being submitted by the photojournalist.
