This site started as an idea, shared via e-mail, with a few community journalists. I met each through an Internet discussion group for the National Press Photographer's Association (NPPA-L). I wrote to each, saying
There has been some talk on NPPA L about getting 20/20 or the like to feature regular photogs and what they do and shoot. I've got an idea for the web and I'd like to hear your thoughts and, ask you, if you would be a player in the project. I want to do a year in the life of photographers web site.
The premise is we have a "cast" of 6 - 8 photogs from around the country. They provide a "diary" or "journal" of their shooting. It could be weekly, it could be monthly, it could be daily for a few times during the year. They have free reign to write their feelings, reactions, hopes, anger, whatever. We also feature their photos -- hopefully some tie directly into their diary writings.
And the original group of six has grown to the eleven currently featured on the site.
