While waiting for this play to start I kept watching the student actors stick their heads out of the curtain - checking out the audience - waving hello to their friends.

The graphic quality of the blue expanse of curtain and the made-up faces said "Yahoo! - Hey Lara - this could be cool!"

The mystical quality of this one child - in this one image - touches me still.

Maybe kid pics aren't so bad afterall.

This is one of those found images that only I seem to like so it never has run. Darn again.

I really like this image. But I let someone else make the decision on whether or not to run this verticle or a similar horizontal image. They liked the horizontal better and I didn't just my own judgement enough to choose this shot, which I could have. Darn. A Joint Armed Forces Color Guard raises the American and California flags at the new Barstow Field Office of the Department of Motor Vehicles. Tuesday morning's ceremony marked the opening of the office at 528 E. Virgina Way.

I love graphic images - things that go swoop or curve or make interesting patterns - especially if there are people in them. This shot ran 4 columns - our usual lead art for page 1. A new water slide park is under construction at Lake Dolores, just outside of Barstow.

This image was made while working on a story about the enlarged BNSF repair facility in Barstow. This shot was not appropriate for the story, but I just liked the patterns that the trucks made with the engines in the background.

The pursuit of wild art can have unexpected results when a photographer is willing to see beyond the quick read...and the paper is willing to try something different. The Desert Dispatch
