June 12, 1998 When I was a boy of 5, my family, which then consisted of me and my parents, took a trip to the east coast to visit some close family friends. It was my first big trip, and I dont even remember it. Consequently, everything I write about the trip is how my parents tell it. According to my mother, I was an angle throughout the trip, but I dont think she would admit it if I wasnt. As I look back on it, the trip was my first experience as a photojournalist, there just wasnt a camera involved. We stayed at a hotel, and immediately I was bored. Both of my parents wanted to rest after the long plane trip, and all I wanted to do is play. That is the only think I have wanted to do my entire life. So I begged and begged for my dad to play with me.
That is what is so wonderful about the work I have been doing at The Sacramento Bee Neighbors while freelancing for them. Lately I have been getting a fair amount of assignments, and they all involve the same basic thing: going out, knocking on doors, and meeting new people.
