Exactly two months ago I started classes at the University of California at Davis. Immediately, I got involved with the daily student newspaper, the California Aggie. Today, I was named photo editor of the California Aggie for the 1999-2000 school year. Although I knew I eventually wanted to take over photo operations at the Aggie, this was a LOT sooner than I had expected. But its a welcome surprise! This job is going to take a lot of work to get where I want to go. The Editor-in-Chief for next year seems to be in support of my ideas to boost the level of visual journalism in the Aggie. The design director and managing editor will become my best friends in the fight for good play, smart design, and visual stories. I will be overseeing a staff of approximately six photographers and an assistant photo editor. The Aggie is a good newspaper with above average photographers; I want to make photojournalism a priority with the Aggie. I am very excited about this opportunity but at the same time nervous about the amount of work it will require. LET'S GO! |
